Session Description: Pain is complicated. Substance use disorder makes it more so. And yet, too many clinicians feel underprepared when these two challenges walk through the door together. That's exactly why we built this series — and this is where it starts. Join us for a lively, case-based session where we'll dig into the real clinical messiness of treating pain in patients with active SUD. No oversimplified answers — just practical strategies, honest conversations, and tools you can actually use on Monday morning. We'll cover the neurobiology and diagnostic criteria of SUD, unpack the clinical risks of opioid misuse in pain management, and explore how to integrate SUD and pain treatment in a way that actually works for your patients. We'll also connect you with local and state resources, so you're never left without a referral option. And because no pain series would be complete without it — we're tackling the opioid-benzodiazepine combination head-on. Think FDA boxed warnings, high-risk prescribing scenarios, and the frank conversations your patients need you to be ready for. Whether you're a physician, APRN, PA, pharmacist, or any clinician who's ever thought "I wish I knew more about this" — this session is for you.
