Insoo Kim, PhD

Insoo Kim, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine (UConn Health). He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Korea University in 1997 and 1999, respectively, and his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from The Pennsylvania State University in 2009. He subsequently completed postdoctoral training at the Center for Neural Engineering at Penn State (2009–2012), followed by work as a lead research engineer at Samsung Research America in Plano, Texas.
His research focuses on the development of wearable and attachable technologies for continuous assessment of physiological signals related to stress, sleep, fatigue, and cardiovascular function in occupational and clinical environments. This work integrates sensor design, signal processing, and machine learning to derive digital biomarkers from ECG, PPG, electrodermal activity, and pulse transit time, to advance objective evaluation of worker health, safety, and performance.
