Session Learning Objectives:  Participants will (be able to):
  1. Define vertical consolidation (vs. horizontal consolidation) and identify the major current models (payer–provider integration, health-system employment/ancillary capture, private equity/MSO structures).
  2. Explain and apply the key mechanisms by which vertical consolidation can affect costs, utilization, access, quality, and clinician autonomy, using real-world clinical examples.
  3. Assess downstream impacts on medical education and residency selection (teaching time, case mix, research opportunities, equity/pipeline effects) and propose practical responses at the program, institutional, and policy levels.
