Title: Spatial transcriptomic analyses highlight distinct erythroid niches in mice and humans
Date: October 20, 2026
Time: 12:00 - 1:00PM
Location: C2021-Lab Medicine Conference Room

Session Attendance Code: QECGOR

Session Learning Objectives:  Participants will (be able to):
1.  Describe the differences in erythroblastic island structure between mice and humans, including the absence of a central macrophage in human bone marrow erythroid clusters.
2.  Compare macrophage-dependent erythroblastic islands in mice with ICAM4-mediated erythroid clusters in humans and explain why findings from mouse models may not apply directly to human erythropoiesis.
3.  Explain how disruption of erythroid clusters and reduced ICAM4 expression relate to ineffective erythropoiesis and anemia in myelodysplastic syndromes, and how these clusters may partially recover after therapy.
